The Pines is a new development of twelve 2, 3 & 5 bedroom houses situated on the fringe of the picturesque residential village of Sowerby, near Thirsk in North Yorkshire.

The village of Sowerby links with Thirsk, but retains it's own identity and is set in the heart of 'Herriot country', gateway to the Yorkshire Dales National Park to the west and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park to the east. Thirsk is also the Darrowby of the late 'James Herriot' (Alf Wight), famous vet and author. On Front Street, which is the main road through the village, an avenue lined with trees, are an old timbered house and the historical village church, and over Cod Beck at the southern end is an old packhorse bridge. Local facilities include the reputable Oswalds restaurant, a public house and a nursing home. There are two schools in Sowerby -Thirsk school on Topcliffe Road, and also a primary school. The village is within easy access of the A19/A168 for commuting both north to Teeside and south to York.

'Ownhome Scheme'

Ownhome is designed to help people who can't afford to buy a suitable home.  It is available for key workers and first time buyers and in either case if your total household income is less than £60,000 pa
Once you have qualified for an Ownhome loan from Places for People, you will need to qualify for a mortgage from The Co-operative Bank in order to be offered the Ownhome package.
Ownhome is provided by a partnership between Places for People and The Co-operative Bank. OwnHome is part-funded by the government, and is designed to help people who cannot currently afford to purchase suitable accommodation, make their first step onto the property ladder.
Places for People could lend you between 20 and 40% of the value of your new home - with no interest payments for the first five years.
The Co-operative Bank could offer you a choice of repayment mortgages from their award winning range on the remainder.
For example - this means that if you qualify for a mortgage of £135,000, you could buy a property worth up to £225,000.
After five years you would be charged a fixed rate of 1.75% interest on your Ownhome loan each year. After a further five years this would increase to a fixed rate of 3.75%.
